The 2023 VW Atlas vs. 2023 Audi Q7 if you're in the market for a mid-size three-row SUV that gives you a generous amount of space and seating for up to seven, you might be doing a comparison of both the new Volkswagen Atlas and the Audi Q7 for 2023. To help you find the right new SUV, here's a comparison of the 2023 VW Atlas and the Audi Q7.

We'll look at the differences in terms of power-to-weight ratios, performance, trims, interior space and overall value. We think you'll agree with us that the new VW Atlas is by far the better choice and we invite you to see why at Hoy Volkswagen in El Paso TX.

A comparison of power-to-weight ratios

The 2023 VW Atlas has a base curb weight of 4,261 pounds. The Audi Q7 doesn't list an official curb weight, but the editors at Car and Driver show the 2023 Audi Q7 with a base curb weight that's much heavier at 4,817 pounds. With more weight to haul around, the Audi Q7 is heavily handicapped in a way that's bound to result in some sacrifice of ultimate performance when compared to the new 2023 VW Atlas SUV.

A comparison of engines and performance

The 2023 VW Atlas has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood that delivers 235 horsepower at the base, or you can upgrade to a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can create 276 horsepower. The 2023 Audi Q7 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 261 horsepower or a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with 335 horsepower. The 2023 Audi Q7 and the VW Atlas have comparable zero-to-60-mph times but the VW Atlas comes out ahead when it comes to fuel economy.

A comparison of fuel efficiency

According to the EPA, the four-cylinder 2023 VW Atlas gives you up to 21 MPG on city streets and 25 MPG on the highway. Meanwhile the VW's V6 engine provides an EPA-estimated 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. The heavier four-cylinder Audi Q7 has an EPA-estimated 19 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. Its six-cylinder engine can produce only an EPA-estimated 18 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway. In today's high-priced world, it's good to know the new Volkswagen Atlas can save you a lot on fuel.

A comparison of trims and features

The new Volkswagen Atlas SE trim starts things off at the base with Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit, heated front seats, and the reassurance of a blind-spot monitor. The base level Audi Q7 does give you standard heated front seats as well, but it doesn't have a stdandard blind-spot monitoring system that's standard on the new 2023 Atlas SE.

Moving up the trim ladder, the new Atlas SEO with Technology trim comes with remote start, front and rear parking sensors and an easy-open hands-free liftgate. The Audi Q7 also gives you a front and rear parking system but not the convenience of the hands-free liftgate that comes on the comparable VW model.

A comparison of interior space

The new Volkswagen Atlas gives you seven seats with 154 cubic feet of passenger space and a maximum cargo capacity of 96.8 cubic feet. The 2023 Audi Q7 gives you a maximum cargo space of only 69.6 cubic feet, which is obviously a lot less then you'd get with the new VW Atlas.

A comparison of value

With all the advantages the new VW Atlas gives you over the Audi Q7, it's significant that Audi charges you thousands of dollars more to buy the new Q7. Save yourself a lot of time, trouble and money by shopping for a new VW Atlas and set up a test drive at Hoy Volkswagen in El Paso TX.
